Europa League Qualifying Play-off: Celtic 2-0 Utrecht; Progress is being made

August 20, 2010

I think that was probably our best performance yet

– Joe Ledley

Joe Ledley was ‘bang on’ with this remark. It was the best performance under Lennon so far (including the caretaker games) and probably the best we have seen for two seasons (at least ). It brought a welcome return to something not witnessed in European competition at Celtic Park since Martin O’Neill was in charge – a comfortable win and the opposition on the back-foot for extended periods. Obviously, one must not get too carried away but given what has had to be endured in recent seasons this game was very encouraging. In particular, the fact that this Celtic side is getting better game by game, being able to sustain a high tempo for longer and longer periods and this is before the signings have fully been integrated. One can look forward with optimism to how things will look once the side is settled and the likes of Izaguirre (and a new goalkeeper?) are a part of it too.

Full analysis to follow soon…(other commitments have delayed the publication)
